"I've had enough of the world and its people' mindless games" -- Incubus

"Pardon Me" by Incubus is playing on my mp3 player, and it brings back flashbacks of Kairos, but for some reason, my mind imagines it as some convoluted mess of vivid music video imagery, coupled with small bits of footage from Kairos with the alliteration of the name of the lead singer of Incubus escaping me at the moment.

I remember Daniel LOVING Incubus, which was a surprise since that was one of only rock-type music he'd listen to, and might be to him what Blink 182 was to me.

I liked Clone High a lot, and I'm sad to know it's gone, but happy to know it wasn't continued story-wise. I have felt that way about some stories before, but I can't remember.

Oh -- Of Mice and Men. I wished they could have lived wonderful lives on the farm they wanted, but it wasn't meant to be.

Then I realized part of the poignantness of it lies in its tragedy (as do many Shakespearean tales).

Funny night here.

pickup lines: "If you were a cd image, I'd mount you first" "If you were an FTP program, you'd be CuteFTP" "You're hotter than the fires of Mount Doom"

Pick up line for girls to use on Romes:
"Can I be your Arwen?"

Good Morning on a Friday.

Freakin cold this morning (morning = 7am), but now as it becomes more familiar (considering my recent sleep schedule), its nice to see the sun coming out. Today is day one of school, and I'm psyched to kick ass.

Got up a bit early, so I watched this week's ep of Joey. Good stuff with the characters, and everyone is hitting a sense of a stride. I'm definitely enjoying the show. This season has a lot of shows I want to keep up with, but so far the best three are Scrubs, Father of the Pride, and Joey. I'm glad Joey didn't fail any sort of expectations.

I still have yet to watch LAX and CSI:NY. Maybe tonight when I have a little free time.

Kate went to watch I, Robot yesterday, and she loved it. She saw it on campus for free. I really should take advantage of the free stuff I can go do on campus, like sports events or those movie events. Gotta keep my eyes opened for that kind of stuff.

The internship is going well. I think just being in a technical environment will help me, in the sense I can learn a lot of stuff.

Scrubs rocks.

JD: Dr Cox, can I ask you something?
Cox: The answer is yes, it was me who saw you doing leg lifts in the gym on that inflatable ball with quite the display of girl power -- absolutely love the leg warmers.
JD: First of all, they were just big socks. Second of all, if you need to do some laundry (lifts up shirt to show abs), heres the washboard.

Janitor: Heard you're trying to clean a dead dog?
Carla: who told you that?
Janitor: The wind...(sees Carla stare in disbelief)...blond doctor.
Carla: Why would you do that?
Janitor: I dunno...still a little drunk from breakfast.

Good stuff.

I got an internship. woot.

Yes, that shit really did happen.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5633644/site/newsweek/

Wow. If I thought this was funny and embarrassing, Bush takes the cake =P

This is what I want to do:

I want to rock your socks
make you pop lock, dont even wanna give a fawk
but wait, dont berate, check the rebate,
let me associate the stalemate with anything ill fabricate
watch it go down the grate, its too late, its fate that makes you irate
21 years and countless tears, memories of absorbing jeers, and flicking my ears

thats enough for now.

Next time you're on the freeway, and you're hitting traffic because of an accident, don't bitch about the traffic; be thankful that you are only mad about traffic, and you'll complain about it for the next hour or two, instead of the unfortunate motorist who is having the worst day with an accident.

A kid of a loan officer was hanging out with us at QLF since her dad had to work for a bit longer, and I tried to distract her with some internet games/web sites. I don't even know what kids watch on tv. She said she was 8, and I was asking if she still watches NickTV or Cartoon network or whatever. I felt so stupid -- "You watch Kim Possible? Spongebob?"

Made me feel older.

Another thing...

Well, it's not like I spent a lot of time with girls growing up, and I didn't really go to the beach with my friends. The only time I spent hanging with girls in swimsuits was the swim team.

The point is that two-pieces went from "the stuff that the older kids wore" to "the stuff that the skinny girls wore" to "the stuff that everyone wears." I can't imagine seeing Kate, or any female contemporaries of me wearing a one-piece, but I don't remember that point where one-piece went from normal/reserved style to psh-ah-whatever-wtf-are-you-wearing-that-style.

Made me feel older, but still youthful.

Happy belated Bday Jonas. Turning 29 -- wow. Just like when Alex's friends went "wtf" when I showed that I was 21, wow at Jonas turning 30 next year.

reading blogs isn't fun anymore.

I don't know if it's because there are no quality blogs that are frequently updated, or that I'm not close enough to anyone who frequently updates. I do recall being an LJ whore during my freshman year, while I still maintained contact with a bunch of Kate's friends, and that seemed to be the primary method of constant communication between the group.

After a while, that fizzled, and those LJs died out. Edgar's is on and off, but right now its back on, and I have to say that over all these years, he's been the most dynamic. Joe maintains a great set of bloggage, and I remain jealous.

What is interesting about one's blog? I know that long entries/long paragraphs tend to turn off the reader (does to me). Intimate daily details seem to only be interesting to the blogger. Random thoughts can be interesting, but cyclic or not exactly connecting with the blogger.

Do I write for myself, or for the audience? A combination of both really.

Lyrics are an important part of blogging, but since I skip over other's lyrics, I'm sure many would skip over mine that are longer than two lines.

I feel like deleting mp3s, but I know that in 6 months, I'm going to want to listen to X song, which I had, but don't anymore for said reason.

I want to make more money. Where does it all go?

Movies I've rented this week:

Taking Lives
Big Lebowski
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Ocean's Eleven
Office Space
Kill Bill Vol 1
Kill Bill Vol 2
Comedian
High Fidelity
Monk Season 1 Disk 1
Monk Season 1 Disk 2
Monk Season 1 Disk 3
Empire Records
It's Pat: The Movie

That's 15 movies (plus one vic wanted) = 8 trips to blockbuster since Sunday =)

I had a memory of my grandpa today. He was with his physical therapist, and he was walking in the middle of my street. My carpool pulled up to my street, and I can distinctly see a big wide smile on his face. Maybe it was the freedom of being outside and walking outside, or maybe it was seeing me arrive, or maybe it was just an involuntary reflex. I still remember it.

My grandpa had a stroke, and lost the use of right side of his body, so walking with a quad-cane was a daunting task, especially outside, because of the relatively hilly terrain. I'll always remember my grandpa fondly, even though right now I can't remember how his voice sounds, or many things he told me.

But I do remember talkin to him about this:

"Daddy, why do other people's last name sound so cool, and ours doesn't? Like Magic Johnson, or Joe Dumars, or James Worthy? I can say their name, and it sounds cool"

"Well, if you say it more often, it sounds cooler. So if people say your full name, or even just your last name more often, it'll sound more comfortable, and you'll think it is cooler"

After about 4 years of grade school being referred to by my last name, I can agree.

Music and moments

I was going through a stack of CDs today, and I found a bunch of unlabeled ones. Turns out they were a bunch of mixed cds I made over the last couple of years. After a while, some cds just aren't worth the great titles like the original Diznopium Bozasm or Ozongastic Octagillion. A lot of these cds were the product of my fickle music tastes.

I thought to just write the name of the first song, or the first thought in my head, just to distinguish them from the others, but then I realized, that upon hearing the songs, it would bring me back to a certain memory.

An old cd opens with "Girls got Grey" by AFI, and I remember hoping that song would come on and rock my world while I was working at Pat and Oscars. So I named it the Pat and Oscars Mix. Another one opens with some awesome guitar riffs, and I remember leaving UCI and driving home after a day of school to some jammin tunes -- so I called it my 2002 drive home cd. Just found it very interesting how certain music elicits such vivid images.

Sizzle let me borrow her Blockbuster card for rentals, so I thought it'd be great to get some movies before my midnight-9am shift (plus I can return them on the way home and get more for burnage), and I thought finally, I can watch some movies I've always wanted to. So here we go:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- Great movie. I think I had a preconditioned notion of pretty much what the movie would entail. In fact, I reminds me of an episode of Goof Troop, where PJ tries to do everything hes ever wanted to do in a day, because he failed a test. Different, but the idea of making the most of the day is a common theme.

I found myself checking IMDB a lot while watching -- Broderick was about 26 at the time. He did a great job of making the lovable Ferris character a full-dimensioned character. I did a double take later on when I saw Charlie Sheen -- so weird seeing him so young. I remember watching I love the 80s, and hearing them talk about Jennifer Grey, the actress who played Ferris' sister. Seeing her in action, yes, she is a pretty girl.

Overall, a pretty entertaining movie.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High -- I wasn't sure how old this movie was, but within 10 minutes, it was clear it was a bit older than Ferris Bueller's time. A lot more nudity/sex than I expected, and could be compared to American Pie (probably even more raunchy for its time in my opinion). The scenes most often connected to this movie both involve a young Phoebe Cates -- her giving a casual blowjob lesson with carrots (funny stuff), and another scene when a guy fantasizes about her taking off her top. The blowjob scene reminds me of When Harry Met Sally, when she did the fake orgasm in the restaurant (followed by another customer telling the waiter "I'll have what she's having).

I don't know why -- I was never a huge fan of the whole American Pie Nadia scene, and the scene here didn't quite jump out at me either. Take that how it sounds Kate -- you're way sexier than any actress =P

The movie was kinda eh -- I think American Pie did a better job of showing high school/relationships in different points of view, but this movie does have its charm.

I'm glad Kate finally has a break from school. Summer school seems to have taken a toll on her -- waking up all super early nearly all the time since the regular school year ended. Now shes got 3 weeks to relax and work (but not as early as class, thank god, plus no studying).

This shift has been going by fast and slow at the same time. I was here alone for able 45 minutes when Steve and Dave came in to play some smash. I cannot believe Dave laughs so much when we play, but its hilarious. They actually stayed till 4am, and so half my shift is already done, just playin games with the guys. It's 7am now, and I just finished both movies. Two more hours of chillin, then I'll return the vids, get some stuff to burn, and get some sleep at home.

I gotta work out today.

26 miles run + 3 miles swim + 112 miles bike/10 weeks
= 2.6 miles run + .3 miles swim + 11.2 miles bike/1 week

This post is pretty long. I'm done. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaates.

Saturday, September 04, 2004

So here I am at my midnight shift. I was a little worried about being here alone the whole shift, but luckily Lesley was here until 3:30, and it was nice to not be alone here.

Now I'm alone here. It's not a big deal though. I played some Fire Pro on an emulator -- it's been a while. Fun as hell, and that entertained me till like 4:45. I watched a couple episodes of Reno 911, and its pretty good stuff. Here are two quotes:

Clementine: When one dynamic person meets another dynamic person, it's like a whole lot of dynamite.

Jones: Sir, I will not hestitate to beat your ass with your own shoe!

LOL. Steve should be coming in at 6am (so he said), but I do know he did play some xaos with Vic till like 1:30/2ish, so I'm a little doubtful. If he gets in at 6am, then kudos. I'm happy I got to talk to Vic about xaos -- it reminded me how much I enjoyed looking up WC3 strats. I think I wanna get back into playing that game melee again. Of course, it'll only take like 2 ridiculous beatdowns to convince me to stop playing, but yah you know.

Everytime I feel like getting back into the game, I just need to waste like an hour finding it and installing it and setting up and playing it to realize its boring then stop again. Maybe I'm getting too old for games, but moments like these (like me going to www.warcraftstrategy.com after so long) that make me realize that I am a gamer. It's those times when I read PSM and wish I could be there -- at the forefront of gaming technology, experiencing the newest thing, debating subjects with other fanatics, and making smalltalk about final fantasies, RPGs, wrestling games, action games, puzzlers, and whatnot.

I sent an email to PSM asking about internships or if they have a journalist degree or whaetver -- no response. I'd love to work for them. I remember thinking when I was kid that I'd want to be a wrestling commentator. I realize that thats something I don't think I could continuously do -- maybe one night, one match, but I doubt I can be anything comparable to the greatness that is Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura.

Another job I wanted was to work for PSM. That's something that still interests me -- I don't really think my major/education will push me in that direction, but it's one of those "cool" jobs it'd be cool to have, but I don't think I'd honestly do that for a living. Kinda like Homer working at the bowling alley.

That's enough for now. I emailed my cousin in Australia, and it was good to hear from her -- I have a correspondent =P

JD: (referring to a large X taped on the ground) Why the giant X?
Janitor: Why the stupid face?
JD: Touche.

Hilarious stuff from the season premiere of Scrubs. Got a midnight shift tonight. Kinda not sure what I'm going to do to pass the time for 9 hrs -- I plan on watching some anime, hopefully some Reno 911/Firefly (if either finish downloading), maybe some FFX if I really want to, and some Megaman X2/X3 (I beat Megaman X last night).

I'll finish later.

Remember Billy Bob from Varsity Blues?

Check him out now.

Wow. I think it was like 2-3 years time to lose 300 lbs.

Wow.

Being a hero isn't just about what you do -- it's about how you do it, and your attitude.

"Now when you talk to her, I don't want you to be the guy in the PG-13 movie that everyone's pulling for. I want you to be the guy in the rated R movie who you're not sure if you like.” – Trent from Swingers
