Would it be safe to say that everybody hates Hitler?

Happy Easter!

Today is 4/20, which means different things to different people.

The movie Unbreakable wasn't very good. The movie did what few movies do, and that's leave me with a thought that consciously influences future thoughts. The idea that if one end of the spectrum exists, so does the other, as well as every thing in between. This isn't to say that all those must exist and that I will experience them in a small period of time (or even at all). Mr. Glass had a quest to discover his polar opposite and he did, and only through vigorous search.

Easter and April 20th are dates where thoughts are influenced by said movie. Understand that to some people, they fall on their knees and pray so hard; their faith strengthening their lives wholly and to them, it is a graceful and meaningful livestyle, where Easter is the most holy of holy days.

The headlining question is something I asked my brother a long time ago. He responded saying that a lot of people don't like him. But people followed him for a reason. He was leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazi party) and he must have had a lot of followers. He may have done some excellent political things (according to some people). Of course, this is not to say the genocide of over 10 million Jews is tolerable or acceptable. However, perhaps there are some subset of people nowadays who respect and honor him, today on April 20th, not in a "I'm a goth kid and I like idolizing evil people because it's cool" but in an honest historian fascination sort of way.

I found out someone was born on April 20th, 1999, which is relatively equivalent to being born on September 11, 2001.

I locked up the calculator program

I wanted to see how high it went, and 9x9 over and over went up too slowly once it hits exponents.

I did 2 and hit x^3 over and over and it locked up after it got to the 3.6361508092684135788860264298035e+53326 point and i hit it again. The value was so high that a dialog box opened saying it would take a long time to calculate it.

1.1111609886041024342801580705318e+479939 - hit it again and it's still calculating....

My brother's response to my discovery:
"i can't imagine how long I have to be doing absolutely nothing just to consider "playing" with the calculator."

At what point...

...does asking for donations become blackmail for slander?

I was asked to give donations for a cause. While I am not opposed to it, I didn't have any money on me (honestly!). The person suggested I pledge the money and turn it in. Something about that suggestion made me uncomfortable; I didn't want to "owe" money to a charity. Again, I am not against the cause, and I honestly would have given that dollar had I had the dollar on me at the time. But something about the way it was asked of me made me feel like I would be "punished" if I didn't pledge the money.

I mentioned this situation to Kate, and she related to Friends, where Ross didn't want to donate money for the handyman's going-away party. The situation is different, but he chose not to pay, and he was slandered mercilessly. It's quite unfair really. They chipped in $100 apiece in that situation. Man 100 bucks times the number of tenants in a multi-floor apartment? That's a lot of money.

I remember in 5th grade, I suggested that instead of me and my friends each giving small presents to our friend for his bday, we should give him $5 bucks to go towards Mortal Kombat. No one supported my idea, saying that it would be lame to only give him 5 bucks, especially when his parents probably wouldn't let him use that money for that GORY game.

I bet the people who hated on Mortal Kombat had serious issues when GTA3 came out.

I saw a bumper sticker today...

...that said "Eschew Obfuscation"

Hilariously ironic. I didn't know exactly what it meant, but I got the gist of it. I don't know where that intuition came from. A quick google search and my gut feeling was absolutely corrent.

It's the same gut feeling you get when someone shows you a new coat and says "hey! guess how much I got this for?" You know that by the way they are phrasing it, that they paid a good price for it, and you naturally guess lower than if you simply saw the coat on a rack.

As I waited in line at the coffee machine...

...the man in front of me commented, "I'll won't take too long" as his actions of creaming and sugaring his morning poison blocked my path to the coffee machine.

I replied, "Take your time; I'm not eager to get back to my desk."

He chuckles.

I'm incredibly tired today.  I'm still seeing traces of blood in my spit.  Warm coffee is probably okay at this point.  I'd prefer not to drink it, but I'm exhausted and I'm only 90 minutes into my shift.  It is hard to imagine that I'll be doing 12 hour shifts starting next Monday.

One of my coworkers looks like s/he could be an alien.  I wonder if anyone else thinks about those things, not randomly, but when someone genuinely looks like they could have been some alien that morphed into a human-looking-type, and passes for one, but still retains some things that make us think otherwise.
