I had a memory of my grandpa today. He was with his physical therapist, and he was walking in the middle of my street. My carpool pulled up to my street, and I can distinctly see a big wide smile on his face. Maybe it was the freedom of being outside and walking outside, or maybe it was seeing me arrive, or maybe it was just an involuntary reflex. I still remember it.

My grandpa had a stroke, and lost the use of right side of his body, so walking with a quad-cane was a daunting task, especially outside, because of the relatively hilly terrain. I'll always remember my grandpa fondly, even though right now I can't remember how his voice sounds, or many things he told me.

But I do remember talkin to him about this:

"Daddy, why do other people's last name sound so cool, and ours doesn't? Like Magic Johnson, or Joe Dumars, or James Worthy? I can say their name, and it sounds cool"

"Well, if you say it more often, it sounds cooler. So if people say your full name, or even just your last name more often, it'll sound more comfortable, and you'll think it is cooler"

After about 4 years of grade school being referred to by my last name, I can agree.
